22 – two
miserable people meeting at a wedding au

“So…”, the redhead began but Chloé immediately cut
into his words, shaking her head.

“Nope, not doing that. Move, tomato, and make room for
me to grab a drink.”

The young man didn’t budge a millimeter as she
gestured for him to step aside, grinning smugly. She wanted to punch his face.

“I said move.”

“I say you’ve had enough.”, he replied.

Chloé’s eyes narrowed as she leant back, one hand on
her hips, gifting him her practiced death glare.

“I’m warning you one last time. Do you even know who I
am?”

He bowed to her, the shit eating grin still on his
face, as he glanced up to her.

“Chloé Bourgeois, the daughter of the mayor, Adrien’s
childhood friend and only invited because he’d feel bad if you weren’t here. Also
you wanted him to marry you, not his actual bride. He talked about you a lot.”,
he correctly assumed, but it just made her even more angry, “And do you know
who I am?”

“A worthless peasant.”, she shot back, not liking to
be mocked like that, “Now move. Aside.”

The redhead leant his head back and smirked,
shrugging. At that moment Chloé wanted to rip his colorful tie in tiny little
pieced and stuff them into his mouth.

“Nope. Let’s take a walk.”

Chloé didn’t know how he managed to make her go
outside, maybe through peer pressure, maybe because he was the first actual
person she had talked to aside from a very heart-eyed and stressed Adrien, but
a bit later she found herself dragged outside into the gardens of the huge
location Adrien had booked for his wedding, by the redhead named Nathaniel.
They walked along some rose bushes, far away from the party now, and she
furrowed her eyebrows.

“Say, why did you wanna drag me out so badly? I mean,
sure, I’m amazing, but you’re not my type.”

Nathaniel leant his head back and laughed.

“Because I’m an artist. I find people like you
interesting, I like discussing things like wealth and poverty with them It’s
mostly like talking against a wall which helps with my portray of the real
world.”

Chloé huffed, taking a sip of the new champagne he had
allowed her to take outside with her (how had she allowed him to allow her?!)
and shook her head.

“So you only wanna talk to me because you think I’m a
spoiled brat?”

“No, because you seemed lonely.”, as much as his voice
was soaked with sarcasm, a true core swung along with it.

“You only wanna interview me for an art project you’re
doing?”, she clarified, her arms crossed.
To that, he shrugged and nodded, his gaze turned forward in a neutral
arrogance.

“Yes. I’m currently doing an art line for a theatre
play, it’s about how wealth makes lonely and how poverty brings people
together.”, that actually made a lot of sense now to her, or maybe that was
just her tipsy mind, “Also, I was kinda bored. And you seemed like a perfect
interview for my piece.”

Chloé didn’t know if she should be insulted or
insulted. Oh right, she could just be insulted.

“Who do you even think you are, idiot? I’m not just a
bad example of the wealthier class of this world, you know?!”

“True, you’re only the worst example.”, his eyes
seemed amused as he caught her gaze again, chuckling with a softness she hadn’t
expected of him, “Or, well…”

“Well, what?!”, she snapped, the glass in her hand
angrily vibrating from her tensed hand.

The redhead named Nathaniel gave her a bright grin
which looked irritatingly good on him, and the challenge in his eyes was
tempting to Chloé.

“Or you could prove me wrong.”, he smirked.

Oh, she was about to prove him so wrong.

Anyone besides me wish there was just like… a direct interface between your brain and the computer, so you could just download the fic sitting in your head directly to your computer without actually having to type or write it? That would be fantastic. I need it immediately. That’s where I’m at right now.
