im still bitten by that chlonath bug, so here’s some more! ladyluck likes to swing around town like spiderman and surprise civilians! she spends a little while swinging solo before her foxy partner shows up on the scene.
This is a birthday gift for the lovely @sweetiedraws, I wish you all the love and happiness dear!
It’s also for all of us who got irrationally mad at the fact that Carapace didn’t just kiss Rena Rouge to break Dark Cupid’s influence on her XD So yeah, ths is what could have been ❤ Hope you like it 😉
Felt like doing some Chlonath for the soul I don’t think i’ve posted any here but i’ve been into the ship since before the show was finished airing its first season and it’s probably one of the few ships in it i still actively enjoy without prompting Renard was designed by @riallasheng still, and ladyluck was done by me this was partly drawn to make @curseofbunny smile, so i hope they like it! i had a lot of fun with the posing, would you believe me if i said this was the first time i’ve drawn somebody upside down and liked the result?
Maybe that sounds harsh because Chloe is the one in the wrong, and I certainly question the point of their relationship at this time. However Sabrina is a fictional character so she shouldn’t exist without a purpose or something to say.
With Chloe it seems they’re at least trying to spread the message “hey maybe mean kids have a reason for their behavior, and that doesn’t make it right but they can change with guidance.” Sabrina’s character, however minor, doesn’t really say anything. She just contradicts Chloe’s message.
Sabrina has always felt like a prop to Chloe. That was fine when they were trying to show how mean and unlikable Chloe is, but now they’ve added her to the hero squad and made a big deal of her trying to be better so why is Chloe still abusing Sabrina? If Sabrina really is just a prop, why hasn’t she become a “pet the dog” variety? Chloe being kind to her could have shown a nice contrast to who she is and who she used to be. Their “friendship” has been called out for its toxicity (like once) in the show but Sabrina has so little screen presence and autonomy that the narrative itself easily pushes that to the side as if it’s no concern.
What purpose does Sabrina’s character serve? She’s not even really Chloe’s “only/best friend” because Adrien often fills that role as if she doesn’t exist. She’s such a forgettable aspect of the series and even Chloe’s life that she practically only appears to get abused, which makes no sense in the current trajectory of Chloe’s character or even the show’s core theme of helping others.
I used to think Sabrina had something to say in S1, yet even as I’m thinking about how she had more relevancy I’m also realizing how little the creators ever really cared about her. Marinette had that one episode (Evillustrator) where she tried to help Sabrina, and since then she hasn’t even seemed worried. The classmates had that one episode (Darkblade) where they actually reacted negatively to Sabrina’s treatment, and since haven’t really bothered with her. Sabrina even disappeared for like three days in “Antibug” yet no one seemed to notice or care, and that episode even got hijacked by Chloe.
There are a lot of sympathetic deep posts about Sabrina portraying the effects of abuse, and how feeling invisible and being uncared for is an intrigal part of her character. I used to agree but now… A part of me really doesn’t think the creators have thought that hard on it. They’ve essentially turned Sabrina into a butt monkey, as all she does is get shit on while everyone looks the other way. She ugly sobs when hurt, and none of the “good” characters really care, which makes me think it’s supposed to be played for comedy. There’s little to no attempt to give her a genuinely sympathetic light, to ask the audience to form an emotional connection, they practically ask you to forget she exists until it’s time to make her cry again.
Hell I barely remember Sabrina is there. She’s fictional, if the show doesn’t do anything to expand on her then I’m not going to get attached to what little is there. If the writing doesn’t tell me I need to be concerned with her, I’m unconsciously going to write her off and focus on other aspects of the show. Is that what they’re banking on for Chloe’s redemption? Rather than just… Making Chloe be nicer to her?
What are the creators trying to say with Sabrina? What are they trying to say about Chloe and the other characters through her? Why is Chloe still mean to her if she’s trying to be better? Why does no one in the show care about Sabrina even as they start to care about Chloe? What are they trying to say about this girl they’ve forgotten to sympathize with and turned into a joke? Are they waiting to call it out again in S3? Or is this just real life now?
